New Delhi, Sept 10: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will today inform the HC of its decision on the the matter of allotment of Ramlila Maidan to Sri Ramlila Committee of Friends Colony (East). Justice Vikramjit Sen, who had earlier issued contempt notices to three MCD officials including its commissioner Rakesh Mehta, yesterday adjourned the hearing for a day.
Justice Sen had issued contempt notices to Mehta and two others for allegedly failing to comply with its order to take a decision on a plea for allotment of Ramlila Maidan for Ramlila celebrations within five days. The court had on August 26 directed the MCD to process the application of Sri Ramlila Committee of Friends Colony (East) for necessary permission within five days.
The petitioner committee had applied for permission to organise Ramlila at the Maidan on August 7, a day after it got no objection from the DCP, central district for a period of 43 days from August 28 to October 10, 2003. The committee, which has been organising Ramlila on this venue for the last 70 years, submitted that a number of preparations such as installation of tents, stages, procession 'jhankies', electricity and water supply, music, band parties, stalls and bazars had to be completed before the celebrations began.
