New Delhi, May 07: As many as 157 IAS and IPS officers are involved in criminal cases in various states, the Rajya Sabha was informed today. Responding to supplementaries during question hour, Minister of State for Personnel Harin Pathak said three IAS and two IPS officers were in jail and placed under suspension.

Out of the 157 officers involved in criminal cases, 93 belonged to IAS and 64 to IPS, he said adding 12 IAS officers and seven IPS officers were on bail. Intervening in the reply, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani said a majority of the cases related to corruption.

While cases of crime accounted for 1.75 per cent, there was a small percentage of murder cases, he added. Bureau Report
