Raipur, Aug 29: Fifiteen students were injured when the wall of a school building collapsed and about 100 villages flooded in the wake of heavy rains in Chhattisgarh where rivers are also in spate affecting communication and road links, officials said. Heavy rains since Wednesday night have damaged property including hundreds of houses, they said.

Fifteen students, including three girls, were injured yesterday at Pamgarh in Janjgir when the wall of a higher secondary school collapsed, officials said, adding that the building was dedicated by Chief Minister Ajit Jogi on June 16.

Bastar collector L N Suryavanshi told newspersons over phone that Indrawati River waters have entered seven villages while six villages have been inundated by the Narangi River and four by the Vaskel River.


While 1485 people have been evacuated and shifted to relief camps, over 5000 people are affected and the situation could worsen tomorrow as Orissa government will release water from Indrawati dam, Suryavanshi said.
Flooding by the Mahanadi River has devastated adjoining areas, and Sheori Narayan is eight-foot under water while at Chandarpur waters are three feet above the danger mark, Janjgir flood control room sources said.

Flood waters have entered at least 13 villages and police stations in the two areas are submerged while road links have snapped at various places, they added.
