An armed intruder into the army camp at the circuit house in busy Bistupur area of the steel city has been arrested, police said on Sunday. The 25-year-old Zulfikar Ali, a resident of Alawaar bustee in Kendrapara district of Orissa, who tried to a make a forcible entry into the army camp on Saturday, later said during interrogation that he had come to meet a CRPF jawan in the camp, they said.
Zulfikar, who had served a jail term in Kendrapara on charges of attempt to murder in 1999, also said he had been lured with a huge amount of money and a visa to Pakistan for receiving arms training. But he had rejected the offer saying he could not betray his own country.
The man said he had received the arms from a person in Panipat to whom he was introduced by one Mehboob in New Delhi. A country-made pistol and two live catridges were recovered from his possession and he was handed over to the police by the army.
The police have got in touch with Kendrapara police about Zulfikar's antecedents.
