Bhopal, June 24: Claiming that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre had allotted sizeable funds to Madhya Pradesh for rural development, senior BJP leader Uma Bharti today said the Digvijay Singh government should provide immediate relief to drought-affected regions as there was no shortage of funds. In a statement here, Bharti, BJP star campaigner for the state assembly polls, said the Centre was sensitive to the rural infrastructure development in the state and had allotted it 28 per cent of funds from rural development ministry's total budget of Rs 13,020 crore.
No other government at the centre had provided funds to the state so abundantly and generously for rural development so far, she claimed. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for releasing the first installment of Rs 1,85,40,25,000 for rural development in Madhya Pradesh, she hoped that the state's infrastructure would become strong.
There is no question of money now but of the state government's intention as the Centre was generously providing resources for rural development in the state, she said adding the state government should provide immediate relief to the drought-affected people by systematically implementing schemes for the purpose.
