New Delhi, July 04: India is likely to keep in mind concerns of US and EU countries on data security while drafting a new legislation on the issue seeking to protect customers' data and confidentiality of business. "European Union countries need specific minimum compliance with regard to privacy that we will put in. US has some concerns with regard to the data, like what data could be put in and what can't be, and they have a safe harbour provision. So we are making sure we encompass that also", Kiran Karnik, Nasscom president, said here on Thursday on the sidelines of ITes-BPO summit.

Ministry of Communication and IT and Nasscom are involved in the drafting of the legislation keeping in mind the huge outsourcing businesses by companies from US and EU countries coming to India.
He said the legislation was necessary to "protect our industry from negative results and gain confidence of the companies outsourcing to India".
"More than benefit, it is the negative results that would harm us. If you don't have the law, then Europeans can't send data here. It's absolutely an essential thing that we have to do with it and the sooner the better," Karnik said. Bureau Report
