One thousand cities and towns in the country would be provided mobile phone services by the end of the year, BSNL chairman and managing director Prithipal Singh said on May 26. Sixty-four lakh telephone connections would be provided during the period, he told reporters after laying the foundation stone of a satellite earth station building at Shoghi, HP.
Stating that there was a waiting list of 18 lakh telephone connections in the country, he said BSNL hoped to clear the list by the end of the year.
Singh said there was no proposal for introducing Voluntary Retirement Scheme in BSNL and also said there would be no retrenchment.
The company also proposed to collaborate with international companies for providing overseas services, he said.
