Lucknow, June 16: Continuing his defiance, former Uttar Pradesh minister Amar Mani Tripathi, whose relations with young poetess Madhumita Shukla sparked a controversy, today did not turn up before police probing the poetess' murder. The CB-CID, investigating the sensational murder, might take a legal recourse to force the sacked minister to appear before it, police sources said.
The investigating agency can move the court to procure judicial summons, they said. On June 13, Tripathi did not turn up before the CB-CID to help investigations into the murder case.
The one-month deadline given to CB-CID to complete the probe and submit a report to chief minister Mayawati expired today.
The agency might ask the government for extension, the sources said,
The sleuths have quizzed almost all the people who knew the slain poetess and only Tripathi remains to be questioned now, a CB-CID officer said. "Our report will be ready once Tripathi records his statement," he said.
He refused to say anything on whether the DNA sample of Tripathi would be sent to Hyderabad to match with the DNA of Madhumita's foetus.
Madhumita Shukla was shot dead at her residence on May 9 by two assailants.
Police claimed Madhumita was six-month pregnant when she was killed. This was refuted by family members of the poetess. Bureau Report
