Ahmedabad, July 17: Police have recovered some firearms and nabbed three more persons, taking to seven the the number of people arrested so far in connection with the case to foil the July 12 Rath Yatra here. Acting on a tip-off, police raided some places in Kalupur and Dariapur yesterday leading to the arrest of three persons hailing from Dariapur in the walled city area, police today said. Six rifles of 12 bore, 50 live licenced cartridges, a pipe bomb and four rocket launchers were seized from the arrested, they said.
Four persons, including a police constable, were arrested earlier for involvement in the case while the main accused Sabbir Shaikh alias Sabbir Sehari was absconding.

On July 12, police unearthed a huge cache of arms and arrested four persons thereby foiling a plot of a suicide attack on the procession.

On the basis of information provided by the four, police conducted raids yesterday and nabbed the trio.

Preliminary investigations revealed Shaikh distributed arms and ammunition to anti-social elements and criminals of Dariapur, Kalupur, Bapunagar, Rakhial, Gomtipur and Shahpur areas. He intended to avenge death of his son in police firing in recent communal violence in the city.
