Agartala, Nov 14: A self-styled area commander of the banned national liberation front of Tripura was killed in a gun battle with security forces in West Tripura district, police said today. A joint team of the Tripura State Rifles and police personnel on a tip-off caught Sujit Debbarma with a Chinese grenade in his possession from his house at Golak Para village of the district yesterday, they said.
On their way to home, the security forces were fired upon by a group of NLFT rebels hiding in jungle and in turn the personnel retaliated.
During the exchange of fire, the arrested ultra snatched an slr from a policeman and managed to run away into the jungle.
Taking advantage of the forest cover, the other insurgents also fled.
Later, the forces found the bullet-riddled body of Debbarma in the jungle, police said.
The police said that Debbarma was involved in several killing and abduction incidents in the area. Bureau Report
