Kohima, Aug 05: Three new districts will be carved
out in Nagaland by upgrading the three existing sub-divisions
to fulfill the long pending demand of people and for
administrative convenience, official sources said today.
A decision for upgrading the Peren, Kiphire and Longleng
sub-divisions to full-fledged districts was taken last night
at a state cabinet meeting here chaired by Chief Minister
Neiphiu Rio, the sources said. Peren, Kiphire and Longleng
will be carved out from Kohima and Tuensang districts
respectively.
Notification to this effect would be issued soon and the
Government decided to form an official level committee to
execute the decision at the earliest.
Both Congress and ruling democratic alliance of Nagaland
in their manifestos assured people of the respective
sub-divisions to upgrade those administrative areas to full
fledged districts if they came to power after the assembly
polls.
With this the total number of districts in the state will
be 11.
