Lucknow, Nov 17: Reported absence of at least 16 legislators in the BJP Legislature Party meeting held today had boosted the morale of dissident party MLAs, as spokesman of the 'save BJP committee' Ramashish Rai claimed an easy victory for the Opposition candidate Yashwant Singh in tomorrow's crucial state legislative council by-election.

Singh would lock horns with government candidate Munna Singh Chauhan in a straight fight. Earlier in the day the dissident BJP legislators held a meeting at the residence of the convener of the committee Ganga Bhakt Singh in which, according to Rai, 18 legislators took part.

"Strategy for tomorrow's polls were chalked out in the meeting," said Rai.

Reacting to the reported plan of the Congress to abstain from tomorrow's polls, he said "despite this the numbers were in their favour and Singh would win by a margin of atleast 10 votes."
Rai said that many BJP legislators would "cross-vote" tomorrow as resentment was brewing among the party legislators and it was evident from "absence of atleast 30 MLAs" and outburst of senior minister Om Prakash Singh against the party leadership.

Rai claimed that as per his information only 52 MLAs had taken part in the meeting, held at the residence of the BJP Legislature Party leader Lalji Tandon.

"The strategies of BJP leadership would fall flat – just wait for a day," Rai said.
