Gaza City, Aug 22: Israeli security officials have said they smashed a Hamas cell in east Jerusalem which they accused of carrying out deadly attacks inside Israel including a bombing at a cafe in Jerusalem's Hebrew University.
The five members of the central cell of the group were arrested on Saturday night as they headed out to perpetrate another bombing, following a tip-off from Palestinian collaborators, security officials said.

Four of the cell's members hold Israeli identity cards and the security sources described the unit, headed by east Jerusalem resident Wael Kassem, as sophisticated and well-organised.

Another 10 Palestinians, mainly from the West Bank town of Ramallah where the cell had its headquarters, were arrested for their role in eight attacks spread out over a half-year that left 35 people dead, the sources said. Bureau Report
