La Quinta, Jan 22: Skip Kendall got off to a good start by getting up-and-down for birdie at the par- five second. He then drained back-to-back birdie putts from over 25 feet at the fourth and fifth to get to three-under.
The 28-year-old rolled home another lengthy putt, this time for eagle, at the sixth before coming back with his fourth birdie of the day at the eighth to climb to minus-six.
Kendall moved to four-under on the first three par-fives when he two-putted for birdie at the par-five 11th. He dropped a nine-iron within six feet of the cup at the 15th for another birdie. The UNLV alum got up-and-down from over the green at the par-five 18th to grab a share of the lead.
