Lucknow, Aug 26: Uttar Pradesh Congress today said that it was opposed to imposition of President's rule as also the dissolution of the state assembly as it favoured the formation of an alternative government.
Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tewari told reporters that his party had submitted a letter to Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri two months ago seeking the dismissal of the Mayawati government and swearing in of an alternative government in the state after withdrawal of support by the 14-member Rashtriya Lok Dal led by Ajit Singh.
"The Congress is firm in its resolve that a secular alternative government in the state should be formed to pave the way for all round development and stability," he said adding that he was awaiting the return of UPCC president, Jagdambika Pal from Delhi and would meet the Governor later.
