New Delhi, Sept 07: Engineering major Alstom projects has said that the company saw greater prospects for growth with Indian Railways following renewed focus on safety aspects. "There is a greater need for upgradation of equipment to enhance the safety levels in Indian Railways and also refurbishment of existing trains and related systems,” Alstom managing director Krishna Pillai said.
The company also said successful implementation of first phase of mass rapid transport system in Delhi would provide much required impetus for development of such systems in the country.

Pillai said that technical support extended by its parent would give the indian arm the competitive edge necessary in respect of capabilities and products.
He, however, warned that insufficient fund allocation by Centre is a threat as government provides the captive market for the segment with finalisation of tenders continuing to be a time consuming process.
Company's future prospects in the sector hinge on the needs of railways and speed of development of mass transport system.
The segment accounted for sales to tune of Rs 47 crore with orders in hand placed at Rs 125 crore during last fiscal.
About the power sector, Pillai said that passage of new electricity legislation would pave the way for qualitative transformation of the sector.
