The Bengal bandh, called by the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) to protest against the recent hike in power, hospital and educational tariff, was partial but peaceful on Thursday. “There had been no report of any untoward incident from any part of the state so far,” Inspector General of Police (law and order) Chayan Mukherjee said.
He said more than 650 bandh supporters, including 85 women, had been arrested on charges of blocking railway tracks at different stations. ''After initial disruption in the morning, the train services have now become normal,'' he added.
The bandh, however, had little impact on flight operations at the Kolkata airport. Bureau Report
