Kendrapara (Orissa), Aug 12: The roof of the extended portion of a 200-year-old temple at a deserted place near here, under repair by the state archaeology department, has collapsed, official sources said today. Though eight workers were nearby, none had been injured, the sources said.

Though the mishap occurred recently no one had been informed about it till yesterday.
The Gobinda Jew Temple, built during the rule of the Marathas, had been lying unused and deserted for a long time and was on the verge of collapse. The extended structure was being used earlier for the annual 'jhulan yatra' in the locality.

The state government had recently decided to restore the temple and deplastering of the roof was being taken up with the plan to get the roof relaid.
Admitting that a portion of the roof had collapsed, the Superintendent of State Archaeology Department (SAD), Dr B K Rath said that the restoration was taken up as part of the Central government's heritage project from the grant sanctioned by the 11th Finance Commission.
