Tea export up 5.6% in May
Kolkata, July 16: Tea export in May has increased by 5.60 per cent to 9.81 million kg after recording continuous decline during the first four months of 2003.
Kolkata, July 16: Tea export in May has increased by 5.60 per cent to 9.81 million kg after recording continuous decline during the first four months of 2003.
Tea Board officials on Tuesday said the exports in May had gone up to 9.81 m kg valued at Rs 91.51 crore with unit price of Rs 93.33 per kg from 9.29 m kg valued at Rs 90.32 crore at unit price of Rs 97.23 per kg in the corresponding period of 2002.
The officials, however, said despite marginal increase in May, exports between January and May this year was down by 31.91 per cent to 45.06 m kg from 66.18 m kg in the corresponding period of previous year.
The total realisation from tea exports during the five month period was down to Rs 417.64 crore from Rs 554.36 crore last year. The average realisation per unit between January and May this year was up to Rs 92.69 per kg from Rs 83.77 per kg last year.
