Wagah, June 25: India today freed six Pakistani
civilian prisoners from Amritsar central jail in another
goodwill gesture to help further the peace initiatives by the
two countries.
The six Pakistanis--Mohd Ashiq, Sachin Sheikh, Aamir
Selim, Arshad Khan, Rao Ikram and Asif Ali--were arrested for
entering India without passport. Rao Ikram and Asfi Ali had
strayed into India on a motorcycle.
Shortly before crossing over to Pakistan, the Pakistanis
told mediapersons that their release had come all of a sudden
as they felt the peace initiatives by the two countries were
not making much headway.
On May 18, Pakistan had released 20 Indian prisoners.
