Pune, Nov 02: A total of 24 people were killed and 33 others injured when a luxury bus from Gujarat plunged into a valley near Panchagani in Maharashtra`s Satara district late last night, police said here today. Superintendent of Police, Prashant Borde said that the accident occurred at Pasarni Ghat when the bus, carrying 57 passengers, fell into 200 feet deep valley after the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve.
The bus broke through the cement railings on the side of the road and fell into the valley, he added.
The bus belonging to S G Tourism and Travels was going to Pune from Mahabaleshwar. The deceased comprised 10 men, 10 women and four children, Borde said adding, the injured have been admitted to different hospitals.
Though all the bodies have been recovered, several still need identification, he said adding, most of the passengers hailed from Surat in Gujarat. The police have registered an offence against the driver for negligent driving under the relevant sections of the IPC.
