New Delhi, Feb 03: The government today announced that the Dearness Allowance up to 50 per cent of the pay will be merged with the basic pay. This will be effective from April 1, 2004.
Finance Minister Jaswant Singh in his interim budget said the fifth Central Pay Commission had recommended that the Dearness Allowance (DA) should be merged with the basic pay whenever it exceeded 50 per cent of the pay.
At present, the central government employees are getting 59 per cent of their pay as the DA. The DA was increased last time from July 1, 2003. The government after having re-examined the recommendation in depth decided the merger, he said.
