New Delhi, July 04: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) today sought clarification from BSNL and Reliance on their latest WLL schemes.
New Delhi, July 04: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) today sought clarification from BSNL and Reliance on their latest WLL schemes.
"We have sought details from BSNL on its latest WLL scheme in which it has offered to give WLL connection at a price of Rs 20, and in the case of reliance, we have asked them why they did not send tariffs of "Monsoon Hungama 501" offer to us before advertising it", said Pradeep Baijal, chairman, Trai.
"We have given them one week from yesterday to reply to us", he said.
"Trai has sought information from us regarding the WLL scheme, but it has not issued any letter or asked us to stop the offer," BSNL officials said. We are not in a position to confirm anything at this point of time. However, if such a clarification has been sought, the company will certainly submit its due clarification, a Reliance spokesperson said.
As per the Hungama 501, a subscriber gets a multimedia mobile phone and connection for Rs 501 only and has a range of budget plans, which start at Rs 149 per month, while incoming calls are free across all plans.
BSNL plans to introduce three options to attract more WLL customers, its CMD Prithipal Singh had told newspersons in Kolkata yesterday. BSNL had decided to give different options to their CDMA technology based WLL customers. Firstly, the customer can come up with his own instrument to get the connection and secondly he could purchase from BSNL by paying a monthly installment of Rs 200.
"Third option is that the customer can have the instrument free of cost only by paying a monthly insurance premium of Rs 25-30, but with a condition that be our customer for at least one year. Such alternative offers will help BSNL roll out more CDMA customers," Singh had said. Bureau Report
