Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 03: The opposition Left Democratic Front in Kerala will bring a no-confidence motion against assembly Speaker Vakkom B Purushothaman for "denigrating" his position by actively campaigning for the UDF candidate in the recent Ernakulam by-elections. "Purushothaman was not only intervening in routine party politics but also took part in the by-poll campaign just like an ordinary congress worker," LDF convenor Paloli Mohammed Kutty told reporters here today following the front's liaison committee meeting held yesterday.
He said all politicians who had held the post of Speaker in the past had kept away from active politics. Asked whether the LDF would seek support of the Karunakaran faction in the Congress to remove the Speaker, he said everyone who was against the Speaker's attitude was welcome to vote in favour of the motion.
Mohammed Kutty said Chief Minister A K Antony should step down "if he had any faith in democracy".
"Antony himself had said that the Ernakulam by-poll would be an evaluation of the performance of his two year-old government," Kutty said. He said the LDF's would not lead an alternative government in the event of Antony government's collapse, but was prepared to lend support to any group if they came forward to form a new government.
Asked whether the LDF would support a government in which Muslim League participated, he said the LDF stand on this was clear.
"Muslim League will not be part of a government headed by LDF," he said. Bureau Report
