Srinagar, Nov 18: Militants fired from automatic weapons outside the main gate of the Army Headquarters at Badamibagh in Kashmir triggering off a heavy exchange of fire with the security forces this evening.
Intense firing was going on near the Army Headquarters at Badamibagh between a suspected suicide squad of militants and security forces, official sources said.
They said the target of the militants was not clear immediately and the army sealed the entire area soon after the firing began around 6.15 pm. There was no immediate report of any casualty, the sources said.
Besides Army Headquarters, many CRPF camps are also located in the heavily-guarded area where the firing was on, they said. A defence spokesman said firing shots were heard on the main road outside the headquarters and the troops have been alerted.
