New Delhi, Aug 28: To lure tourists to its idyllic destinations, Kerala - better known as God`s own country - is organising a weeklong food and cultural festival here showcasing the state`s rich and vibrant culture. "For ages the rich and vibrant culture of the state has attracted people worldwide. Bowled over by its splendid beauty, even the National Geographic Traveller was forced to declare it as one of the `50 must see destination of a life time` so we decided to hold this festival here to make people aware of the state`s divine beauty, its tantalising cuisine," State Tourism Minister K V Thomas said. The weeklong festival beginning on September 8 will showcase the authentic cuisine of the state. Various art forms like Kathakali, Mohiniyattam and martial arts will be performed at the festival.
As a part of its promotional drive the state tourism department along with Kerala gold and silver merchants and World Gold Council will be organsing the Kerala gold fest titled "Swarnam` in the state on the lines as the Dubai gold festival to highlight the grandeur and purity of gold found in the state, the minister said. "We want to brand Kerala as an `ever green land of gold` in the world through this festival. It will help present the state`s gold industry as a potential sector for generating income and employment opportunites," he said.
