Toruchirapalli, Aug 18: A Rs 1,700-crore Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract has been bagged by the public sector Bhel here for 500 MW power project at Korba (East) in Chhatisgarh. According to a Bhel release, Chhatisgarh State Electricity Board (CSEB) had opted to source equipment from Bhel after it finalised a global bidding.

The EPC comprised of civil works, engineering, design, manufacture, supply of plant equipment and associated ancillaries, testing, erection and commissioning, the release said, adding one of the two plants of 250 MW each was slated for synchronisation in 32 months and the second unit four months later.
Turbine generators and boilers for the Korba unit would be manufactured at Bhel's Haridwar and Tiruchirapalli plants. Electronic controls would be manufactured at its Bangalore division, coal mills at Hyderabad, heat generators and electricals at Bhopal and Jhansi units and electro-static precipitators would be supplied by its Ranipet unit.
The release said Bhel had also landed with another Rs 400 crore EPC contract for installation of two 77 MW each captive power units for Hindustan Zinc Limited at Chittorgarh. While the first unit is to be completed within 18 months, the second unit is to be completed within three months. Bureau Report
