Guwahati, Nov 20: The ongoing violence in Assam has intensified with proscribed Ulfa killing Biharis at will, pushing the death toll beyond 30, taking advantage of the popular sentiment against Biharis in the state. There were three separate killings by Ulfa last night even as curfew was clamped on the towns of Tinsukia, Namrup and Duilajan of Upper Assam and Bongaigaon of Lower Assam.

According to a senior police official, the Ulfa struck at Bongaigaon, Nalbari and Kokrajhar last night, killing ten Bihari people in identical manner. In each of these incidents the Ulfa militants came on two wheelers, chose a area where Biharis were residing and shot them. Tinsukia, Duliajan and Namrup towns all have a sizeable Bihari population and witnessed incidents of looting and arson.

The district authorities first clamped curfew at Tinsukia town and later in the night Duliajan and Namrup were also brought under its purview.
