Kathmandu, Sept 20: Nepal will raise the issue of stepped up Maoist insurgency in the country at the UN General Assembly meet at New York and seek international support for the permanent resolution of the crisis.
"We will raise the issue of Maoist insurgency and ask for international cooperation to deal with the difficult situation the country is passing through,” Nepal's special foreign representative Bhesh Bahadur Thapa told reporters before his departure.
Thapa said that Nepal has appreciated the concerns shown by the international community, including that of the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. He, however, ruled out the possibility of any third country mediation to resolve the Maoist issue.
"We are trying to find out the solution by ourselves, he said adding no side has shut the door for the possibility of resuming negotiations for the peaceful settlement of the problem.
The Maoists walked out of the peace talks during the third round and unleashed a fresh round of violence in the Himalayan Kingdom after unilaterally ending the ceasefire on August 27.
