NY, May 27: Gap Inc. announced on Wednesday that "Sex and the City" style goddess Sarah Jessica Parker will star in the casual clothing chain's ad campaign starting this fall. Parker rose to A-list star status and became a darling of the fashion press playing Carrie Bradshaw on the HBO smash hit show, which ended after six years last February Her thirty-something character set such trends as the gold nameplate necklace and helped make shoe designer Manolo Blahnik a household name. Gap, on the other hand, has made its name with jeans and predictable, affordable clothes that appeal to average Americans.
But Nicki Gondell, creative director of marketing and design consulting firm Trend House, said the actress was also well known for the mix-and-matching of expensive and cheap chic clothing, so pitching for Gap was no stretch.
"(Parker) has really introduced a lot of people to fashion...She is in a way is kind of ageless. I know there were a lot of teenagers watching 'Sex and the City' and they could identify," Gondell said.

The San Francisco-based retailer said the latest campaign will be its first time working with a celebrity on a broader scale than a one-time appearance in a print or television ad campaign. Last summer, Gap signed Madonna as a pitch woman, a move that was seen to gain the favor of baby boomers.
