Godhra, Feb 08: Continuing their protest against the arrest of Maulvi Hussain Umarji, people of minority community would stage a protest march and keep their shutters down here today. Umarji, the head cleric of the town and allegedly the key accused in last year's Godhra train carnage, was arrested two days ago for his alleged involvement in burning of 59 Kar Sevaks travelling in Sabarmati Express on February 27 last year near the railway station here.

The district superintendent of police N Komar told a news agency that despite a `bandh' called by the people of minority community after the arrest of Umarji on February 6, no untoward incident was reported in the town since then. "The situation in the city is peaceful, normal and under control", he added.

Referring to a report in a section of media, Komar said "no permission to stage a protest march has been taken by the minority community as reported in section of the press".

When asked what would be the administration's stand on allowing the protest march, the DSP said, "It all depends when they ask for permission. What type of march they plan to take out and all other aspects would be decided if they ask for permission". Umarji, who was arrested when Zabir Bin Yatin Behra, another accused in the train carnage, confessed before the chief judicial magistrate on Wednesday alleging that he had masterminded the act, has been remanded to five days police custody.
