Bangalore, Sept 28: Busan Asian Games gold medallist Sunita Rani ran away with gold in 1500 metres with a below-par performance on the opening day of 43rd Open National Athletic championships here today. Rani left the other runners far behind and came home in four minutes, 17.57 seconds at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here, much below than the national record breaking feat of 4:06.03 seconds achieved by her at Busan last year. "I was aiming for 4:15 but I am happy with my performance," Sunita said. She is now looking forward to next month's Afro-Asian games in Hyderabad after opting out of the Asian Athletic Championships held in Manila last week. Bureau report
