Lucknow, May 13: The Babri Masjid Action Committee today reacted sharply to the Centre's submission before the Liberhan Commission that the disputed site in Ayodhya was the birth place of Lord Rama saying the issue was very much open to debate. BMAC convenor Zafaryab Jilani, in a statement here, said in the suits filed by Hindus as well as Muslims, pending before the Allahabad High Court, the question of the disputed site being the birth place of Lord Rama was very much in "dispute". "It has been falsely stated before the Liberhan Commission on behalf of the Central Government that BMAC had accepted the site to be the birth place of Lord Rama," he said. "Such false assertions are being made on behalf of BJP-led government mainly to mislead their own allies who may not be well conversant with the stand of different parties in the suits pending before the high court," he said. "This sort of misinformation campaign is highly objectionable and specially when it is made with reference to any judicial or quasi judicial proceedings," Jilani said.

"The attempt to mislead the nation should be condemned by all secular forces and the Liberhan Commission should take note of such false statements. Suitable action should be taken against those making such false statements," he said.

The Centre yesteday told the Liberhan Commission, probing the demolition Babri mosque on December 6,1992, that the disputed site was the birth place of Lord Rama and maintained the only dispute was whether a temple existed there before the construction of mosque.
