Taiwan on Friday relaxed its restrictions on direct trading with China and also lifted an import ban on some 2,000 Chinese farm and industrial products. Among other items, imports of salmon, tuna, lobsters, potatoes, onions, and beer from china will be allowed effective on Friday, the Board of Foreign Trade said.
Trading no longer must go through parties in a third country as Taiwanese trading firms can now deal directly with their Chinese counterparts, the government agency said in a statement. Also on Friday, the Finance Ministry said that Taiwanese and Chinese banks will be allowed to make direct remittances, and funds no longer must be transferred through banks in a third country.
However, the direct remittance business will be limited to currencies other than the Taiwan dollar and the Chinese Yuan, the ministry said.
