New Delhi, Nov 04: After rejecting Chief Minister Ajit Jogi`s plea to reconsider its decision to transfer two `upright` collectors, the full Election Commission team is visiting Chhattisgarh to review poll arrangements and to see how the model code of conduct is being enforced.
New Delhi, Nov 04: After rejecting Chief Minister Ajit Jogi`s plea to reconsider its decision to transfer two "upright" collectors, the full Election Commission team is visiting Chhattisgarh to review poll arrangements and to see how the model code of conduct is being enforced.
The visit of Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh and two election commissioners T S Krishnamurthy and B B Tandon assumes significance in the wake of several complaints from BJP and NCP against the Congress government there.
It also comes a few days after Jogi accused the Commission of not following the "principle of natural justice" while acting against his government and some of its officials.
During the day-long visit, the election commissioners are expected to hold a series of meetings with recognised political parties as also top civil and police officials on the poll arrangements and enforcement of model code of conduct, Election Commission sources said. The full commission is also expected to address a press conference before returning.
Taking exception to certain actions and statements issued by the commission over the past few weeks, Jogi after a meeting with the Commission on Friday last had charged BJP and some other political parties with flooding the Commission with "frivolous, false and fabricated" complaints against the Congress and his government.
The Chief Minister said that the Commission should "hear both parties before taking any action. That is what the principle of natural justice demands". Commission sources said that it would react to Jogi`s comments "at an appropriate time".
