Congress on Monday assailed BJP for its cynical attempt to exploit communally surcharged atmosphere in Gujarat by planning assembly election there and said the move was reminiscent of the steps taken by Hitler after the stage managed fire in the Reichstag (German Parliament).
Party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy stated this while announcing the second phase of party's campaign for the ouster of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi which would begin all over the country on Tuesday.
“All party MPs and senior leaders will participate in a dharna at mahatma Gandhi's Samadhi at Rajghat as part of the programme,” he told reporters in New Delhi.
Stating that Modi's continuance was an insult to democracy, Reddy said that the national executive of BJP at Goa added insult to injury by giving Modi permission to go for fresh election in this surcharged atmosphere. “This is a cynical machiavellian attempt to exploit a communally charged atmosphere in the state,” Reddy said.
Replying to questions, he said that the opposition parties would press for an adjourment motion in the Lok Sabha on the Modi issue and a decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of opposition leaders convened by Sonia Gandhi. Bureau Report
