Kathmandu, July 04: amid recent incidents of violence, the Nepalese government today urged the Maoist rebels to stop breaching codes of conduct to build conducive atmosphere for the third round of peace talks. "We have received a number of reports about the Maoists violating the codes of conduct by indulging in unwanted activities like extortion, abduction and attacking civilians," Nepalese communication minister and government's talks coordinator Kamal Thapa told reporters here today.
The Maoists must stop such type of activities to create an atmosphere conducive for talks, he said. "I have a long list of the Maoists breaching the codes of conduct," he said adding the government will take measures to ensure law and order situation in the country. There is a need to create an atmosphere of trust to move ahead the peace process, the minister said. In turn, the government is also releasing the Maoist members detained in different occasions, he added. "The government is constantly in touch with the rebels and I am confident that the talks will be held soon,” he said. The third round of talks will also officially endorse the decisions made during the first two rounds of talks, he said.
The government is ready to implement all the decisions and understandings reached during the two rounds of talks except some disputed issues, he added. The talks could not move ahead after the second round following differences between the two sides over the issue of mobilisation of the Army. Bureau Report
