Raipur, Mar 28: Chhattisgarh assembly today passed a bill to set up a Law University in the state even as treasury and opposition benches grilled the government on changing its location from Bilaspur to Raipur. Before approving the establishment of the Hidaytullah Law University, several members, including Speaker Rajendra Prasad Shukla, Deputy Speaker Dharamjeet Singh (Congress) and senior BJP leader Banwari Lal Agrawal, wanted to know why government had changed its earlier announcement of setting up the university at Bilaspur, the seat of the state High Court, to Raipur, the state capital. In his reply, law and Parliamentary affairs minister Rabindra Choubey, said Raipur was the best place for the university as it had an airport with daily connectivity.
However, succumbing to pressure from both sides, Choubey announced to open a research Centre of the university at Bilaspur, following which the bill was passed.
