Guwahati, June 22: Assam Police today claimed to have busted an extortion racket involving local businessmen and the Ulfa extremist outfit. According to the Dhamaji Superintendent of Police N F Haque, Ulfa extortionist Manoj Buragohain, alongwith some of his business associates, was arrested recently on charges of carrying out extortion activities. A revolver and some arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession, Haque said, adding their interrogation was on. He said the Ulfa militant had demanded money to the tune of Rs one crore from different people in the district but the extortion bid was foiled by the police. Bureau Report
