New Delhi, Oct 13: Representatives of Poorvanchal Nav Nirman Morcha led by Devendra Prasad Yadav, MP today met the Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh and complained that the names of about 6.5 lakh people of the eastern region residing in about 25 assembly constituencies of New Delhi have not been included in the voters' list. Yadav demanded a high-level enquiry into this "discrimination", Morcha spokesman Ejaz Ahmad later said.
He said that Lyngdoh had assured the delegation that he would look into the matter personally and also said that no adult would be deprived of his or her right to vote.
The Morcha had yesterday held a rally here to focus on the rights of people belonging to the eastern region and to unite them against "oppressive action at the administrative and social level in Delhi".
The rally, assumed significance in view of the forthcoming assembly elections in Delhi where 30 to 40 lakh people from Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal reside and can make or mar the electoral prospects of candidates.
Meanwhile, the Morcha's executive committee is likely to meet tomorrow to decide about contesting the elections or extending support to any party.
