Beijing, July 22: An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale has left at least nine people dead and 200 injured in Southwestern China's Yunnan province, officials said today.
The earthquake hit Yunnan's Dayao county at 1116 hrs local time (2046 hrs IST) yesterday, destroying 846 homes and damaging 13,269 others, county officials said.
Nine deaths and about 200 injuries were reported by this morning, the officials said.
Dayao is about 180 kilometres from the Yunnan provincial capital, Kunming, where the quake was also felt, state media reported.
Disaster relief teams have been sent to each of Dayao's 14 townships.
