New Delhi, May 12: A 25-year-old man in Gujarat, who had a travel history to Singapore, has tested positive in the preliminary laboratory tests for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus. The man was admitted to an Ahmedabad hospital on May 6 and had tested positive for SARS virus in the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, health ministry sources said. The patient was improving with treatment, they said adding the two SARS probable cases, one each in Karnataka and West Bengal, had become symptoms free after treatment.
Meanwhile, no new "doubtful" case has been reported in the country and no laboratory samples had been received, an official release said today. World over, 7296 SARS probable cases have been reported with 526 deaths till May 10 from 30 countries. Bureau Report
