Nagpur, May 06: Three more persons from Surat in Gujarat have been arrested in the fake currency racket, taking the total number of arrests in the case to five, police said. Two other suspects, Ashraf Sahabuddin Charniya and Aslam Hussain Parbatani, were arrested on April 26 for circulating fake currency in the market.

Police raided a lodge in the city where they were staying and seized counterfeit notes amounting to Rs 73,400. During the interrogation, they named the other accomplices from Surat following which police arrested Barkat Alibhai Khoja, Sagar alias Ajay Narayanbhai Tatheliya and Purushottam Ramjibhai Akbari.

A scanner and 26 fake currency notes in Rs 100 denomination were also recovered from them. The notes had been circulated in Amravati, Kannad, Mukundwadi towns of Aurangabad district and Nanded town in Marathwada, police said.
