New Delhi, Aug 06: State governments do not require Centre's permission to privatise State Electricity Boards (SEBs), Rajya Sabha was informed today. "Privatisation of distribution of electricity by states is one of the options envisaged for bringing about a turnaround in distribution," Minister of State for Power Jayawanti Mehta said in a written reply on whether some state governments propose to privatise their electricity boards. Asked whether Centre's clearance was required in this respect, the minister replied in the negative. Bureau Report
