New Delhi, Dec 18: A two-member Unesco team will visit Taj Mahal next month to assess the impact of the controversial Taj corridor project on the monument. The team, which is arriving here on January 10, will spend four days in inspecting the Taj and the impact of the now shelved project on the world heritage site, Unesco Chief of Administration (Culture) Prithiviraj Perera today said. Accompanied by ASI officials, the team would also inspect the Hampi group of monuments in Karnataka before returning to Paris on January 22, he said adding that the team would look into various aspects of both the monuments in totality.
The world body had threatened to withdraw the world heritage site status from the Taj if work on the Rs 175 crore project continued. Bureau Report
