Beijing, Aug 03: After a two-month delay due to the outbreak of SARS, China officially unveiled the logo of Beijing 2008 Olympic games today at a gala ceremony at the
world famous Temple of Heaven.
The logo is a combination of the famous five rings, a Chinese seal character of Beijing and "Beijing 2008" written in English.
Chinese seal characters are one of the country's most ancient languages dated back to more than 2,300 years ago.
Though the International Olympic Committee (IOC) gave its approval to the logo for the 2008 games in March, the unveiling of the emblem, which was originally scheduled for May 25, was postponed due to the outbreak of SARS epidemic.
The spectacular function was attended by the Beijing municipal communist party secretary and Beijing Olympic games committee president Liu Qi and other top officials of the city.
