Kathmandu, Apr 23: Visiting Indian Army Chief Nirmal Chandra Vij was today conferred an honourary generalship of the royal Nepalese Army by King Gyanendra, official sources said. The king presented the sword of the generalship at a special function at the Naryanhity Royal Palace in Kathmandu, attended by crown prince Paras and Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand, who is also defence minister. Vij, who arrived yesterday for a four-day official visit earlier held discussions earlier today with Chand. He met with royal Nepalese Army Chief General Pyar Jung Thapa yesterday at the army headquarters here, and discussed among other things the Maoist insurgency, the army sources said. Bureau Report
