Bhubaneshwar, Nov 13: The Central government has agreed to release an additional of Rs 38 crore to Orissa under the Central Road Fund (CRF) for repair of highways damaged in recent floods, official sources said here today. The Centre's assurance came during a meeting held between Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, B C Khanduri in new delhi yesterday.

The sources said that the Centre had sanctioned new works amounting to Rs 22 crore under CRF while promising further sanction in due course. Funds for nine projects amounting to Rs 48.38 crore had been approved apart from Rs 27.14 crore already sanctioned, they said.

During the discussion, Khanduri assured that the Centre would consider on priority the four-laning of Sambalpur- Bargarh and Bhubaneswar-Puri NH stretches under the build, operate and transfer (bot) scheme, the sources said.

He said that Rs six crore from the allotment of Rs ten crore would be released immediately for repair of roads damaged in the floods. The ministry had earlier released Rs two crore for the purpose. Khanduri assured that the demand for declaration of Khurda-Balangir and other highways as national highways would receive due consideration in line with the overall national policy, the sources said.
