New Delhi, Feb 06: Taking serious notice in the ‘Justice-on-Sale’ exposé by the Zee News team, the Supreme Court today sought a reply from suspended Gujarat magistrate Brahm Bhatt for issuing bailable warrants against President A P J Abdul Kalam, Chief Justice of India V N Khare, a sitting apex court judge B P Singh and senior advocate R K Jain. The judge has been asked to reply by February 11.

The court also sought similar replies from three lawyers - Narender Choudhary, Iqbal Katia and Harish Bhawaniwal - who acted as middlemen in the case to secure the arrest warrants allegedly on payment of Rs 40,000.

A three-judge bench, comprising Chief Justice Khare, Mr Justice S B Sinha and Mr Justice S H Kapadia, also issued notices to the Gujarat government, state chief secretary, director general of police, police commissioner, Ahmedabad and deputy police commissioner, Maghaninagar on a representation by 129 mediapersons alleging that two TV journalists were beaten up in Ahmedabad by lawyers on January 29 and 31 in the aftermath of the incident. “The Chief Justice treated the representations as a public interest litigation (PIL) and has asked for a response in the matter by February 11,” said kamini Jaiswal, counsel for the mediapersons.

``This is an exceptional case. We must cure the malady in the judiciary in the country. We are for purity of judicial system,`` the Chief Justice observed.

Earlier, Solicitor General Kirit Raval, appearing for the CBI, filed three sets of its preliminary reports in a sealed cover in compliance with the court order directing the investigating agency to probe the case and file its preliminary report within a week.

The court said the reports would remain in the custody of the registrar general and would be opened on February 13 when the case was listed for further hearing.
