Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 08: The Kerala Cabinet today decided to seek legal advise on the possibility of recommending a CBI inquiry into Marad violence even as it approved the agreement reached between leaders of Hindu and Muslim communities for the rehabilitation of families and establishing peace in the area. Briefing reporters here, Chief Minister A K Antony said the possibilities of recommending a CBI inquiry into the May 2 violence, which left nine people dead, were being explored. The Cabinet decided to seek the advice of Advocate General as a first step in the direction.
The General Administration Secretary Vijayakumar had been authorised to co-ordinate the activities of various departments for the speedy implementation of the proposals in the October 5 agreement, which included enhanced compensation for kin of victims and rehabilitation of families that fled Marad after the carnage. The development package for Marad, one of the points in the agreement, would be taken up in a time-bound manner and would be monitored by ministers for water resources, PWD, electricity, health and fisheries.
To a question, Antony said the problems in the ruling UDF could be resolved though some of them were "complicated". On reports that Muslim League was disenchanted with his style of functioning, the Chief Minister said they had not conveyed anything to him on the matter. Bureau Report
